  Had never thought about it that way, but I guess the creative decision here was more about zooming in on the two main characters so that the storyline stays crisp. Her role was fascinating, though. I thought Caitriona Balfe's performance was absolutely incredible, no less so than either of the two boys, and I am sure she was entirely up to it if she was tasked with adding depth to the character.
